Ladbrokes Winter Derby
Jonathan Hobbs and Joe Conneely go over the competition for both ante-post selections as well as having a look over the heats this evening.
Other open races tonight
Central Park, Doncaster and Oxford also host open races this evening.
A single open in Kent tonight, a bitches contest at 7.27. It’s a tricky contest with lots of Crayford form on offer. It might just be run to suit Julie Luckhurst’s One More Tune to come home strongest.
In South Yorkshire there are four opens, a pair each over 450m and 483m. The most interesting of those is the 7.04 where Keefill Maverick makes his return to action, last seen in the final of the BGBF British Bred Derby at Sheffield. His main rival looks to be Bellmore Ozzy who won 14 opens at this track in 2024. He too has his first run since December.
There are six opens at Oxford where Kevin Hutton has a strong chance of having a couple of winners. Perhaps the top contest is the final one at 9.18, a staying event over 650m. Gagas Merry made the final of the bet365 Challenge Cup and should take the beating on that level of form.
Bonville Kennels lock(e) in a Romford treble
After a career-best 2024, Maxine Locke is off to a red-hot start in 2025!
Joe Conneely was vocal in his preview that Whitewood Lenny had a great draw to work from last night and so it proved as he took full advantage in 23.66. The combination of his early pace and a vacant trap inside him produced a perfect situation. Droopys Rosie shrugged off some rough rides at Hove with a winning return home with Call It Off getting the night started for the kennel.
Scammer clocked the fastest 575m time of the night for Mark Wallis, breaking the beam in 34.86. Wallis also scored with Fabulous Sonique earlier in the evening. Paul Young had a pair of winners himself with Teejay Bojangles and Bubbly Queenie both coming home in front.
Other winners on the night were Tesseract for Dave Lee, Shaz Starlite for Jim Reynolds, Teaboy Brownie for Nathan Hunt, Flynns Porter for David Mullins and Champys Girl for Ellie Field.

Grumpy Wazock, Grumpy Mabel and Grumpy Dotty were the winning siblings with Grumpy Baby Dave adding to the tally.
